What Makes Me Different: The Strategy, Systems & Soul Behind My Work

“Before you disturb the system in any way, watch how it behaves. Follow a system wherever it leads. It will be sure to lead across traditional disciplinary lines.”
Donella Meadows
I'm a marketer, but marketing myself is some of my most challenging work.
Clarifying my unique value proposition has been a rewarding exercise in understanding not only what I do, but how I think, what I value, and what makes my approach different.
The truth is,I'm a skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced generalist whose multidisciplinary background, training and interests have shaped how I think, observe, and solve problems.
And that's a good thing for the people I work with.
My diverse experiences inform everything I do, from developing marketing strategies and creating content to collaborating with clients and solving complex problems. They influence how I recognize patterns, evaluate opportunities, understand people's experiences, and determine where an investment of time, energy, and resources will make the greatest difference.
With more than 15 years of experience across agency, in-house, nonprofit, and entrepreneurial environments, I bring both strategic perspective and hands-on expertise to marketing and communications.
But what truly distinguishes my approach is how I connect that experience with a broader understanding of people, environments, and interconnected systems.
Here's what that looks like in practice—and why it matters to you.
I consider the individual elements, the collective impact, and the relationships between it all—and use that perspective to help client make more informed, intentional decisions for their business.
My zone of genius: I combine strategic marketing expertise with a holistic, human-centered approach that goes beyond the surface to connect the dots, strengthen alignment, and support meaningful business outcomes.
The Unconventional Background Behind My Approach
My professional background extends beyond marketing.
I'm a graduate in Geography, a certified feng shui consultant and energy worker, and a certified environmental educator, and a lifelong wellness enthusiast and community advocate. Across my marketing career, I've also worked with small brands and nonprofit organizations across all of these spaces.
On paper, these varied disciplines might seem unrelated. In practice, they share a common thread: understanding how people, environments, relationships, and systems interact to shape experiences and outcomes.
Marketing taught me to connect communication with business goals.
I understand how positioning, messaging, content, search visibility, public relations, digital experiences, and customer relationships contribute to a business's success. I can move between big-picture strategy and the practical work required to bring it to life.
Geography and environmental education taught me to consider the bigger picture.
These disciplines have shaped my understanding of interconnected systems, context, resource use, sustainability, and our relationship with the world around us. They encourage me to consider how individual elements influence one another rather than viewing them in isolation.
Feng shui and energy work deepened my attention to patterns and relationships.
Feng shui considers how elements within an environment interact and influence the experience of the people who inhabit it. My training has further informed my observational skills, pattern recognition, and interest in the relationship between our surroundings and how we feel and function.
Health and wellness reinforce the importance of human experience.
My interest in well-being informs how I approach collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. I care about the people behind the businesses I support, including their needs, values, capacities, and circumstances. I want marketing to support meaningful goals without becoming unnecessarily stressful, manipulative, or disconnected from what matters to the people doing the work.
The unique combination of these disciplines is what makes my perspective distinctive: One that is both analytical and empathetic, strategic and practical, attentive to details and conscious of the bigger picture.
My approach brings together strategic marketing expertise, multidisciplinary thinking, and a commitment to collaborative, human-centered service.
I see the bigger picture, understand the bigger problems, and know how to solve them with real integrity and insights.
Why a Multidisciplinary Marketer Is an Asset
Business challenges rarely exist in isolation.
A messaging problem might actually be a positioning problem. A visibility problem might reflect an unclear audience or an inconsistent digital presence. A content problem might stem from an unsustainable workflow. A growth challenge might require greater focus rather than more marketing activity.
When you look at individual tasks without considering the systems around them, it's easy to invest in solutions that don't address the underlying issue. I enjoy making those connections.
My non-linear, multifaceted background encourages me to ask questions, examine relationships between different elements, and consider possibilities that might be missed when a problem is approached from a single perspective.
It also helps me recognize that effective solutions aren't always about adding something new.
Sometimes, progress means refining what's already working, repurposing existing resources, simplifying a process, or redirecting attention toward a more meaningful opportunity.
For a client, that might look like improving an existing website before investing in a redesign, getting more value from established content, prioritizing the channels their audience actually uses, or developing a manageable communications system instead of committing to an unsustainable publishing schedule.
The real differentiator is my ability to consider the whole ecosystem: the person, their environment, their needs, and the systems connecting them.
How I think: I recognize patterns, understand systems, and identify underlying problems.
How I work: I translate strategy into action and bring ideas to life.
How I connect: I approach clients, audiences, and the work itself with empathy, compassion, and care.
What Makes Me Different, And Valuable
My goal is to help clients make informed decisions about where to invest their time, energy, and money. That philosophy comes to life through three interconnected aspects of my approach.
1. Holistic Perspective
I see the bigger picture and identify what others might overlook.
My background in feng shui, geography, and environmental education informs my systems thinking, pattern recognition, and understanding of how individual elements interact.
I bring this perspective to marketing by looking beyond isolated tactics to identify underlying issues and opportunities. A business struggling to attract clients might need more than content or advertising; it might need clearer positioning, stronger messaging, or a better digital experience.
I look at how your brand, audience, messaging, content, and customer experience work together to identify gaps, reduce friction, and determine what will make the greatest difference.
Inspired by feng shui's consideration of how environments shape experiences, I examine how the elements of your brand influence how people discover, perceive, and engage with your business.
What this means for you: You gain a curious, observant problem-solver who considers the broader context of your challenges. Rather than jumping straight to tactics, I help identify what's getting in the way, where the opportunities lie, and which changes are most likely to make a meaningful difference.
2. Integrated Expertise
As a Thinker AND a Doer, a Generalist AND a Specialist, I bring both strategy and execution- and that's rare.
I'm a marketing generalist with experience across SEO, content strategy, public relations, digital marketing, user experience, and marketing communications. I understand how these disciplines work individually and how they connect to create a cohesive strategy.
I combine broad marketing knowledge with specialized skills, strategic thinking, and hands-on execution—from developing plans and creating content to coordinating projects and evaluating performance. Research, audience insights, and analytics inform my decisions and help identify opportunities for improvement.
By connecting strategy with execution, I help turn business goals into practical, integrated marketing solutions.
What this means for you: You gain a versatile partner who can see beyond individual channels, connect complementary disciplines, and help coordinate the moving parts of your marketing. Rather than treating every need as a separate project, we can work toward a more integrated approach that supports your broader goals.
3. Relational Approach
I operate with People, Planet, and Purpose in mind.
I believe effective marketing starts with understanding people. My approach prioritizes listening, empathy, and collaboration, with recommendations tailored to each client's goals, values, audience, and resources rather than a one-size-fits-all playbook.
I'm drawn to purpose-driven businesses and organizations supporting individual, community, and planetary well-being, particularly in health and wellness, personal development, environmental sustainability, education, and travel and recreation.
I value inclusive, ethical communication that builds trust through honesty, genuine value, and respect rather than pressure or manufactured urgency. I also believe growth should be sustainable, considering the people, resources, and broader impact involved.
What this means for you: You gain a collaborative partner who takes your circumstances seriously, adapts recommendations to your needs, and approaches the work with empathy and integrity. We'll consider what makes sense for your business, your audience, and your available resources, with an emphasis on meaningful progress rather than activity for activity's sake.
Reminder: As AI makes generic output easier, those of us with judgment, taste, experience, voice, strategy, and discernment are standing out among the crowd.
I'm not interested in producing more digital noise and clutter. I'm interested in helping the right businesses communicate and connect so they can grow in ways that align with their goals and values.
Bringing It All Together

Who I Work Best With
I appreciate clients who value thoughtful strategy, honest communication, collaboration, and a more intentional approach to growth.
I'm particularly interested in working with purpose-driven brands, businesses, and organizations whose work contributes to individual, community, or planetary well-being.
Maybe you're focused on clarifying your positioning, strengthening your digital presence, improving your content strategy, navigating a transition, or looking for ongoing support from someone who can connect the pieces of your marketing.
You might know exactly what you need, or you might recognize that something isn't working without knowing why. Either way, we can start by understanding your goals, exploring the challenges, and identifying where support would be most valuable.
I want to work with people and organizations that care about what they're building, how they're building it, and the impact they're having along the way.
If you're looking for someone who can think strategically, execute creatively, operate across disciplines, and approach your business with genuine care, look no further.
A More Thoughtful Approach to Marketing
Let's be honest: By not having a clear, focused "primary expertise", I am actively doing the thing that you're not supposed to do as a marketer. But it's all for good reason because when you get all of me, you get an experienced, versatile professional with multiple supporting capabilities and complimentary skills.
When your marketing systems work together, they create a more cohesive experience—one that helps the right people find you, understand your value, and take the next step. When they don't, opportunities can be missed and valuable resources wasted.
That's where I come in. I combine strategic marketing expertise, systems thinking, creative execution, and a human-first approach to help you identify opportunities, connect the dots, and make informed decisions about where to focus your resources.
Whatever the scope of work, I aim to provide solutions that are thoughtful, tailored, and grounded in the understanding of what the client needs: content that serves a clear purpose and communicates clear value.
When you work with me, you can expect original, human-written content that reflects your brand's voice, speaks to your audience, supports discoverability, and encourages meaningful action—without relying on manipulative tactics or 'content for content's sake'.
My strategic approach is aligned to your broader business goals, with flexible options to accommodate different needs and budgets.
Let's start by exploring your goals, challenges, and opportunities. Together, we can identify a thoughtful path forward that aligns with your values, resources, and vision for growth.
